The birth of a child is one of the most exciting experiences a mother can have. Some people believe that babies are a blessing.
I couldn't hold back my tears of delight when my first child arrived.
It was the happiest feeling a human being could possibly experience. Nothing is essential now.
However, if you haven't adequately prepared for your newborn, it might be disastrous.
Unlike me, I was not ready as a father how I should take care of my baby when we got home. I had no clue or plan.
Luckily, my mom wasn't leaving so far, so I had to become a student to my mom on how to take care of my son. Funny how that sounds weird saying it out loud.
Within the first 3 weeks, I became a master of taking care of my newborn son, learning from the best 'my mom.'
Here are a few tips I learned from my 3 weeks of intensive training.
To keep the baby calm when he is crying or wants to fall asleep, put him on your shoulder with one hand and use the other hand to pat his back gently and rhythmically.
This makes him feel comfortable and puts him to sleep quickly.
2. For the umbilical cord, always apply a cord care powder to the umbilical stump to dry it up and fall off within a few days.
Use a pad to clean off any residue on the baby's belly button.
3. Swaddling the baby;
Babies have a strong reflex, making them throw their arms and legs
aggressively, and they could end up injuring themselves when not
swaddled.
The swaddling works effectively thus, to help keep them safe. You can get the swaddle at any supermarket to buy.
4. Feeding the baby with a feeding bottle needs to be done with precision and great care.
When feeding with a feeding
bottle, keep the bottle leveled horizontally, don't raise the back
of the bottle because by doing so, you could end up choking the baby.
5. The soothing sound produced by white noise machines works like magic for babies.
Babies love white noise; it helps them to sleep comfortably at night.
You can buy
a white noise machine for your baby and see how amazing it makes them sleep fast.
6. Change your baby's diaper regularly, at least every two hours.
When you see the yellow strip
on your baby's diaper turn blue, you should know it is time to
change it.
When changing the diaper, lay down the baby on his back.
Open a new diaper and gently slide it under the diaper on the baby.
This is to prevent any leakage from the old diaper from spreading around.
7. To calm a crying baby when nothing seems to work out, take the baby outside.
The change of environment works well to calm him down.
8. When taking the newborn baby out to bathe, use warm water only.
Cover the baby with a warm baby towel and gently bathe them.
9. Always remember to bring the baby out of his little car seat when you arrive home. Dont just leave him still in the car seat when he is asleep.
Gently removed him from the car seat and laid him in bed.
Your baby can suffocate while sleeping in the car sit for long, and we wouldn't want that to happen.
10. After you have finished feeding your baby, burping him is the next thing you should do.
Put the baby on your thighs in a sitting position. With one hand on his chest, gently pat his back.
You can put him on your shoulder when it is challenging to burp him in the sitting position, or you could lay him on your thighs and gently pat his back.
I learned some valuable tips, and I am happy to share them.
