Deciding what business to start can be challenging, especially if you don't have any education on how to start a business.
Most people end up crashing out because they lack the right knowledge to help them succeed.
In this article, we will be looking at the right steps you must take to start your dream business that can stand the test of time and succeed.
Before you begin anything, you must undergo a self-assessment to determine where your strength lies for you to create a business that will work for you.
The diagram above illustrates 3 things.
That is Skill, Passion, and Market.
These three keys are essential to identifying what business you must do.
i. Skill;
There are a lot of skills one could have.
Analyze the skills you have and see which of them could have great value and impact.
ii. Passion;
After discovering your skill, the next thing you should look at is what you are passionate about.
This is because without having a passion for what you want to do, it will be very difficult for you to be committed to that business and go all in for it.
iii. Market;
Last but not least is the market; this is where you look around to see if there are people looking for your services.
Is there a demand for your skill at where you are? The market is significant because you will be running a business at a loss without it.
Therefore, you must do a detailed analysis looking for where there is a lot of demand for your skill.
Now that you have an idea of what business to do, the next topic we will discuss is the steps to take in setting up your business.
How to start your business
After conducting your market research to know where your skill will be profitable, the next thing you should do is;
⦁ Pick a business name;
The name is the identity you give to your business, but picking one could be challenging.
Before you consider picking a name, be sure your business name is one that people could quickly identify with your product or services.
⦁ Write a business plan;
Writing a business plan is simply drawing a road map for your business.
This may include how you will run the business with goals and strategies to grow.
Having a plan written down will help you easily achieve your goals.
⦁ Get a location;
To set up, look for a suitable location to position your business.
The location must be closer to your market or clients for easy running unless it is an online business where you can efficiently run it without being close to your clients.
⦁ Get your business registered;
Before a business can operate in any country, it needs to be registered.
This is to give your business the legal protection to trade with ease and add credibility to your business.
