There could be a thousand and
one reasons that led many to single parenting.
For some, it
may be a personal decision; it could also be due to the death of a
partner, divorce, breakup, and a lot more reasons.
This
article will look at the challenges of being a single parent and
the steps to change things around.
Single
parenting could be a stressful situation to find yourself in if you
are not well-prepared for it.
Raising children alone as a
parent may stress you out because of the multiple responsibilities
that come with it.
The overwhelming responsibilities can
be damaging to the single parent in many ways.
Taking
care of the chores, preparing the kids for school, going to work,
doing the groceries, helping the kids with their homework, and all
other responsibilities can lead to an emotional, physical, and
mental breakdown.
Quickly, let's start looking at some challenges and possible solutions.
1.
Financial Challenges;
Taking care of children is no easy task, especially the financial aspect that could be drastic on a single parent
if proper plans are not in place.
Quality childcare costs,
clothing costs, and saving money for future emergencies can significantly burden single parents.
To tackle this challenge,
seek help. The local and federal social services have numerous
intervention plans to support single parents.
2. Losing friends;
This might sound odd, but it is the reality. The
unending everyday burden on the parent could make them have little or no time for other social life.
Some friends
intentionally cut you off with the mind that you might be asking for
financial support from them frequently.
I had a personal
experience where I lost three friends because I am a single
parent.
Initially, I felt terrible anytime I tried to make
a connection, but it never worked out.
But after some period, I
realized it was for the best.
You get to know your real friends
in complex situations. My advice is that the fewer friends, the better.
The
friends lost do not have any positive impact to add to your life, and we only grow through adversity.
3. Health problems;
Single
parents go through a lot of struggles just to raise their kids.
The
balancing between work and house chores, not forgetting the daily
taking care of the kids, could be time-consuming that the parent
completely fails about their own health.
Not forgetting
about the money factor too.
Not being able to frequently visit
the doctor could lead to stress-related severe ailments.
Thou
it might seem impossible, it is essential to visit the hospital
for checkups.
How I do it, I wake up very early to put things in
place early in the morning. By so doing, I get a lot of free time, which I utilize for my doctor's appointments.
4.
Fatigue;
The unending cycle of taking care of the kids, doing
the chores, going to your 2 to 3 jobs, and doing the groceries isn't
just an easy job.
It is so tiring that it gets to a time when
you will naturally break down due to fatigue.
It could be due to
lack of sleep or depression.
Of course, as a single parent, this
is a common thing that happens frequently.
The solution to
solving this problem is to have enough sleep.
Try as much as
possible to sleep early. That way, you are guaranteed to sleep well
and wake up full of energy.
Tackling the depression side of the
story, I advise you to talk to a therapist who can help
prescribe a medicine for you.
