Peel and stick wallpapers are fast becoming a new trend, and everybody seems to be joining this trend.
I didn't know this was a trend until I visited my brother-in-law one day for his daughter's birthday, and I was astonished when I saw the wallpapers on his wall.
It was really breathtaking, and I decided that I must get there, peel and stick wallpapers and transform my house as soon as possible.
I got back home in the evening and started researching this peel-and-stick wallpaper and how I could install it.
Fortunately for me, I was able to find all the information I was looking for and decided to buy the peel and stick wallpapers right away.
I wrote this piece to show you an effortless step-by-step procedure on how you can install a peel
and stick wallpaper all by yourself without calling in a handyman
and, in the process saving you money.
The peel and stick wallpapers are about 18ft long and 20.5 inches wide.
Since you now know the measurements of one roll of the peel and stick wallpaper, you can use that information to calculate the number you will need to buy by measuring your wall's height and full length.
How to install
Measure the height of the wall.
Unroll the peel and stick wallpaper on the floor and measure from its foot.
Add about 5 inches extra to the measurement you picked from the wall and mark it on the wallpaper.
Cut the marked area on the wallpaper with a sharp blade.
To begin with, the installation, peel off about 2 inches of the paper covering the sticker on both sides.
Use a ladder to easily reach your ceiling or the top of the wall. That is beginning from one side of the corner of your wall.
Hold the wallpaper carefully, making sure it is straightened well, and stick it to the wall.
While you're up on the ladder trying to fix the sticker, you can request someone to correct the wallpaper below you.
You will find things to be easier and faster due to this.
Peel off about 1 inch of the rear of the paper cover to reveal the sticky part and adhere it to the wall.
Then smooth down the surface with a squeegee tool, a flat plastic material, to ensure that the sticker adheres well to the wall.
Carry on like this until you reach the bottom of the wall or the baseboard.
Press the wallpaper to the wall and baseboard with the squeegee tool, then position the blade above the squeegee tool and slide both devices horizontally to cut off the excess wallpaper.
Make sure the second wallpaper design is aligned with the first one you adjusted.
Aligning them to match may necessitate cutting off the areas of the wallpaper that do not correspond well with the first.
To avoid gaps between the peel and stick wallpapers, overlap the second one over the first one by about half an inch.
If there is a power outlet on the wall you are working on, make sure you turn off the breaker panel to prevent any form of electrocution.
When you come across a power outlet, cover it with the sticker, and then use your sharp blade to carefully trim off the wallpaper covering the power outlet.
Don't be in too much of a hurry when cutting off the wallpaper on the power outlet; take your time to trim it off well.
Don’t cut too much away because in-case there is a correction to make after smoothening the wallpaper around the power outlet, you can easily solve that.
Use the squeegee tool to smoothen the wallpaper around the power outlets very well until it adheres properly.
Continue repeating the steps in fixing your wallpaper until you reach the end of your wall.
You might realize the remaining part of your bare wall might be too small.
When you face this situation, don't panic.
First, make sure you align the patterns first and then cut off the excess.
Then use a measuring tape to measure the exposed part of the wall.
Take the measurement between
the wall and the remaining section of the wallpaper at the top.

Measure the center area of the wall as well as the bottom end.
Transfer the recorded measurements to the floor wallpaper, adding 1 inch to each measure and connecting all the prominent places on the wallpaper into a straight line with a straight-edged.
Cut off the excess peel and stick wallpaper with the blade against your straight edge on the drawn lines.
You can also take off the excess wallpaper using a pair of scissors.
