When your baby is in pain and needs to communicate that to you, it is through crying because, for all babies, that is the first form of communication they know.

Babies get bored, too, and when that comes, it is through crying that they can get the parent's attention. When she is bored, cuddling her could be the best option to get her to calm down.

According to experts, when the baby is tired, one way you can identify that is through how she cries. When a baby is tired or uncomfortable, you will notice her have whiny nasal non-stop crying that builds.

4.     She may be sick;

Yes, babies can tell if they are not feeling well through crying. This is usually difficult for most parents to know when they are communicating that, but according to some experts, when you hear the baby cry with a weak nasal sounding with a lower pitch, that should be a clue.

 Also, look for other signs like fever, diarrhea, or restlessness and contact your doctor as soon as possible.

 There are also other reasons why a baby might cry, like hunger, anxiety, or due to a dirty diaper.

1.     Shush next to her ear;

One of the common ways to calm your crying baby down is by making the "shush" sound next to her ear like white noise.

Babies love white noise because it reminds them of when they were in the womb when the mother's blood was rushing around them.

What I usually do with my kids is to record the white noise of a recorder from YouTube, and then whenever I notice her crying, I play that to her.

2.     Rock the baby;

Again, this is another common and popular way a parent can calm the baby down. This style of calming babies has been there for centuries now.

There are many ways to rock a baby, but I find the best way to be holding the baby close to your heart while rocking her by moving side by side calmly.

Having the baby lying close to your chest and holding them not too tightly will help alleviate the built-up stress and calm them down.

3.     Use the sound of running water;

Well, this is only recommended if you can afford it. As discussed earlier, babies love white noise; another type of white noise they love is that of running water hitting something.

Have you realized how calm your baby sleeps when it's raining? Well, it is because of the sound.

You can create an artificial one by taking your baby to the kitchen and opening the tap, or you can do likewise using the bathroom tap.

4.     Sing for her;

Babies love their parents' voice, well maybe it is because they are used to it, so singing to her can also help a lot.

If your baby has a favorite baby song, that will be the best song to sing to calm her down.

My daughter loved "twinkle twinkle little star," so whenever she starts crying and I want to calm her down, that is the song I go with.

It works like magic.

5.     Let them suck a dummy;

Sucking a dummy is another way to stop your baby from crying and help them calm down. When babies are sucking dummies, it gives them a soothing sensation.

Most experts recommend that dummies be given to babies to calm them down because they also help lower built-up stress levels in babies and their blood pressure.

It is pretty amazing how a simple dummy can do a lot in helping babies.

Conclusion

I hope this write-up gives you all the necessary information you will need to help your baby calm down when crying.

In case none of the tips I have listed above helps calm your crying baby, I highly recommend that you seek the assistance of a qualified doctor to help you find out what the problem might be.
