Today, we will be looking at 6 simple ways to overcome mom burnout.
I know you probably know what that means, but for those who don't, I will try to explain it to the best of my knowledge to help them be on the same page with us.
In simple terms, burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion due to excessive stress.
As a parent, there are a lot of causes we can point to which can lead to you ending up in this state.
Many of us have been there before, knowing how bad it feels.
I have had my own share, and when that happened to me, it really ate me up because I didn't know how to overcome it, but through research and consultations, I have found the way out, which I will be sharing to help you.
Before we look at the best ways to overcome mom burnout, we must look at some of the signs you will notice when you are probably out of steam.
Signs Of Mom Burnout
1. Feeling disconnected;
This is one of the signs of burnout, and it happens to me a lot. This is where you pick up a chore to do as a mother, and suddenly, you just feel out of yourself.
It is like your mind and soul are somewhere else, some call it out of body experience, and you only realize it when confronted.
2. Lost of motivation;
Yes, if you don't have the motivation anymore for something you never had a problem doing before, that can be considered a sign of burnout.
For example, every morning, you wake up very early to provide food for your kids before they go to school and you love doing that for them, then one day, all of a sudden, you feel like it is a punishment for you.
That is precisely what lack of motivation means in this context.
3. Easily drained or tired;
How often do you get tired of doing your everyday chores? If you've noticed that you become exhausted or drained anytime you do a task at home that is part of your regular routine, it should be an indicating factor.
It could indicate that you need to take a break to recover.
There are more symptoms out there that can help you know that you probably have a burnout issue, but for the sake of time, we will move on to look at some of the tips to overcome mom burnout.
Tips to overcome mom burnout
1. Take a vacation;
Taking a little vacation can be a great way to help you recover from burnout. Find someone who can step in and take care of your kids and go on that trip.
Time and distance can help you regain your balance. Though when you come back from the vacation, nothing will change, but the little space you had will help you in the long term to identify what is causing the frequent burnout.
2. Listen to your body;
I know you've been working hard taking care of your kids, but it's time to work on your personal health and well-being.
Starting a healthy lifestyle can be one way to reprogram the body to recover from burnout. Exercising is one example of ways you can help regain your balance from burnout.
3. Do something fun;
What did you love to do when you were younger without any responsibilities? Maybe doing that can help you a lot regain yourself.
If you are the type who loves to see the world by going on a road trip or hike, do it.
You will be amazed at how just visiting the past can be so much helpful to you.
4. Take breaks;
It could be 45 minutes or more but make sure it is long enough for you to fully recover. Set reminders on your phone to help you not to forget when it's time for you to relax.
Whatever you think is excellent and can help you recharge, find that and keep yourself busy with it.
I, for instance, use my break time to watch comedy content on my phone to lighten things up a little for me.
You can try that out and see if it works for you.
5. Remove the stress;
If you can identify what triggers your burnout, you can try and limit or remove it, if possible, from your chores.
Identifying and going back to what causes your burnout doesn't make sense. It is just like going to the hospital for consuming posing, and after getting the needed treatment, you then go back to start taking in that poisonous substance again.
6. Talk to someone;
You will be amazed at just how much stress you can get rid of by having a conversation with someone.
Talking is a great therapy that we usually take for granted.
Find anyone you are okay with opening up to and have some conversation with that person.
You can decide to talk to a therapist if you can afford one. They can also help you with great tips to help you overcome your burnout.
